Whats the big deal?
As of today, we've switched over to Wowza for our streaming services and back end. Most end users will not see a huge difference, except in stability. Our old provider only offered one bitrate to stream to. That meant people with slower internet connections often had loading problems, or would have the stream cut out mid way. A very frustrating experience. Wowza allows us to send out to multiple bitrates at one time. That means, if a viewer is trying to watch with very slow internet, they'll automatically get connected to a lower quality image, but have consistent video and audio. On the flip side, if a viewer has a good internet connection, they should be able to watch at a full HD level.
How do I use Wowza?
- Wowza should be, for the most part, transparent. For Sunday AM services and The Project Services, the off site Wowza server will boot up and shut down automatically.
- Big difference is: DON'T hit stream on Wirecast until after the times listed below OR after you have manually booted up the Wowza server.
- REMEMBER to shut the server down after. Failure to do this will cost us overage charges for every hour we've got it running needlessly.
Sunday Morning Services (Automatic):
- Boot up mediaPost
- Log into Streaming (Standard Password)
- Open Wirecast (Ensure that June 2018.wcst is loaded. Finder: Mill Woods Assembly/DataHub - Technical Services/Broadcast/Wirecast/June2018.wcst)
- At 8:30am, click the stream button (Looks like a WiFi icon) at the top.
- Note: You have 15 minutes to click this button if you do not click it on time. If not, the server will time out and shut down. If you have waited too long, Wirecast will give you an error message. To fix this go to Manually Streaming with Wowza
- Open live.mwassembly.ca to confirm
Sunday Evening (The Project) (Automatic):
